Volunteer Spotlight: Sara Frantz

Sara Frantz joined Craley Fire Company more than 10 years ago to spend more time with her husband, Jesse, who puts in long hours as the Fire Chief. Now, Craley is their second home. Their children, Liam, 11, and Mckenna, 7, love spending time there.

“They love the trucks, the cool tools, and the people. I could definitely see my kids following in our footsteps. It’s a family affair!” said Sara.

She currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of Craley, previously as Membership Secretary, and also helps organize fundraisers.

“Volunteering has pushed me to be more interactive with people. It forced me out of shell,” said Sara. “It’s cliché, but I love being able to give back to our community. Without our volunteers we’d be dependent on other departments who may be farther away or paying higher taxes to make up for not having a volunteer department.”

Sara works as an Accreditation Coordinator at Spingettsbury Township Police Department. When it comes to balancing working, volunteering and being a mom, Sara says, “My kids are always the first priority and everything else falls into place.”

Craley Fire Company appreciates the time volunteers are able to give, and also provides gear and training. No prior experience is required to join.

“More women should join Craley because it’s fun, we’re like a family, and you learn skills you can take anywhere,” said Sara. “The fire department offers a different thing for each person, but in the end we’re all family and have each other’s back.”
