Husband and wife, Jesse and Sara Frantz, both enjoy giving back to the community they grew up in by volunteering with Craley Fire Company.
Jesse joined Craley in 2003 and has served as the Chief since 2013. He was driving past the station with his dad one day and told him to stop in; he wanted an application.
“The thought of doing something different appealed to me at a young age, and I was willing to see what it was all about,” said Jesse. “We are a fairly small community and most people know each other. It’s nice to be there for them in their times of need.”
Jesse and Sara met in high school when he was a sophomore and she was a freshman. They’ll be married 17 years this September. Sara joined Craley Fire Company more than 10 years ago to spend more time with Jesse, who dedicates long hours as the Chief.
“It was nice when Sara decided to join because we were able to spend more time together during times when we would have been apart,” said Jesse.
Sara says Jesse always puts others first. He isn’t afraid to admit when he’s wrong or ask for help.
“He holds himself and his fellow firefighters to high standards and pushes everyone to strive for success,” said Sara. “He’s also not afraid to make hard decisions when it’s required.”
Sara is the fire company’s Secretary and Treasurer, helps organize fundraisers, and previously served as Membership Secretary.
“Her attention to detail is important in her role as Treasurer of the department,” said Jesse. “When she commits herself to anything, it will get done, even with our busy lives at home and with our children.”
Jesse and Sara have two children, Liam and Mckenna, who love spending time at Craley.
“They love the trucks, the cool tools, and the people. I could definitely see my kids following in our footsteps. It’s a family affair!” said Sara. “My kids are always the first priority and everything else falls into place.”
When they aren’t volunteering or spending time together as a family, Jesse works at York Area United Fire and Rescue as a fireman and Sara is an Accreditation Coordinator at Spingettsbury Township Police Department.
“Jesse will always be a firefighter; it’s in his blood,” said Sara. “We couldn’t be more proud of the dedication he commits to Craley and our community.”
